Tour interest:
On the site of the Maison de la Forêt, you can see an oak and cob house dating from 1764. In order to prevent it from being destroyed, this building was dismantled piece by piece and reassembled identically on the present site. The cob is made of a mixture of clay, wood and local vegetation.
At the place known as Linière, near Chierzac, you will discover the Notre-Dame-des-Dons chapel on its promontory adjoined by its cemetery. Founded by the Templars, the chapel dedicated to Notre-Dame appears in the texts as a dependency of the Commandery of Civrac (Mirambeau). In 1565, the chapel was "ruined", but the inhabitants promised to repair it "when the troubles were over". The present building has a flat chevet with a large Gothic window in a pointed arch with three lancets topped by a rose. Inside, the stone vaults have disappeared, but the foliated capitals, the abacuses and the projections of the formets bear witness to the remarkable height of the 13th-century vault. The outer north wall has a coffin.
Bédenac, a landscape of pine forest and white earth, has a 19th century church. The interior of the church of the Nativity of the Virgin has a remarkable 19th century canopied altar.
An oil on canvas depicts the Nativity of the Virgin. In the background, Anne is lying in a bed, assisted by two midwives. In the foreground, the newborn child in Mary's arms is being washed and bandaged by neighbours.
