Interest of the circuit :
The church of Saint-Pierre de Chevanceaux, 12th and 19th centuries, of Romanesque origin, has been completely restored and enlarged in a neo-Romanesque style very close to that of the original building. The work was carried out thanks to the generosity of the Fillon family; Bonnefoy, bishop of Saintes and La Rochelle, came to inaugurate the restored church on 18 October 1897 at the same time as he consecrated the high altar of the church in Montlieu-la-Garde.
The church of St-Palais-de-Négrignac, 12th and 15th centuries, a priory dependent on the abbey of St-Romain-de-Blaye, has a late flamboyant façade which contrasts with the neighbouring Romanesque buildings. The bell tower is pierced by two bays on each side and countered by buttresses. The flat chevet is pierced by a large gothic bay. Inside, the ribbed vaults have hanging keys.
The dolmen of "Pierre Folle" in St-Palais-de-Négrignac is a short and narrow burial chamber. The table has slipped behind the bottom slab.
The Font Colette washhouse in St-Plais-de-Négrignac, dating from the 19th century, built on the banks of the Lary, facing south, was roofed in 1955 and recently restored by a workcamp of young internationals from the association "Solidarité Jeunesse" based in Montendre. The cladding is traditionally made of planks laid vertically.
The Château de Chaux, a 17th century building, belonged to the Sainte-Maure family for over four centuries. The castle is the seat of a seigneury extending over the lands of Chevanceaux, St-Palais-de-Négrignac and Pouillac. The buildings, flanked at each corner by circular towers overlooking an ancient moat, open onto a courtyard with a gallery.
