Interest of the circuit :
Before Julius Caesar's conquest, Gaul had no real road network. The Roman Empire, which extended across Europe, Africa and Asia, was so vast that roads became a means of control.
The Gallic War, in the 1st century BC, gave birth to the Gallo-Roman civilisation. This resulted in the establishment of a reinforced road network, linking the old towns to the new settlements. All these roads (Neulles - Neuillac) are marked by milestones (Chadenac or Consac).
In the commune of Marignac there are many windmills dating from the 16th century. They are characteristic of the region. The oldest ones are round and built of rubble stone, while the others are made of ashlar. In the locality of Chez Methez, an 18th century windmill was stripped of its roof and wings during the Second World War to be transformed into an observatory by enemy troops.
