Tour interest:
The Antonine order was founded in 1070. Today, the buildings house a professional agricultural high school.
The name "Antonines" comes from Anthony. Father and model of all monks, the first anchorite, Anthony was born in Coma in Upper Egypt around 250 and died in 3546 in the desert of Thebaid where he retired. He began by distributing all his possessions to the poor and went to live in solitude near his native village.
Many people in the East and West wanted to embrace an existence similar to his. The monks of all times and places perpetuate the prophetic and charismatic heritage of Anthony by remaining the silent heart of the Church.
To the north of the village of St-Ciers-du-Taillon, the castle of Orignac corresponds to a seigneury dating back to 1200 with Ythier d'Orignac. It passed to the Cravans and Ferrand families in the 14th century, then to the Le Fourestier family in the 15th century and to the Saint Légier family, who kept the castle until 1919. The latter was rebuilt several times (18th and 19th centuries). The main building, flanked by two pavilions covered with slates and flanked by cylindrical watchtowers covered with a stone cupola, incorporates elements of the old castle. A pavilion was built at the end of the master's house. A vast park surrounds the castle, accessible through a fortified gate.
