Interest of the circuit :
A variety of points of interest follow one another along the route.

The church of Saint-Pierre d'Archiac is in fact a former chapel of the Récollets. The mission of the monks, who were installed in 1632, was to push back the Protestantism that had taken root in the commercial town of Archiac.

The church of Saint-Martin d'Arthenac is a large stone-vaulted church. The façade is made up of two distinct parts. The first part, dating from the 12th century, is in the Romanesque Saintonge style and has a large portal with five arches decorated with geometric motifs, framed by two blind arches. The other part is built in Renaissance style.

The church of Saint-Pierre de Germignac was enlarged after the Hundred Years' War. Two large buttresses frame the opening; their tops were used as fortifications to shelter a few men.

The hosanna cross of Échebrune used to stand in the cemetery next to the church of Saint-Pierre. During religious processions, this monument was a station for praying for the dead. Over the centuries, some of these crosses have changed function, becoming, for example, roadside crosses or modern calvaries.

In Celles, a garden of poetic life has been created by the pupils and their school group. It is the first educational garden to be awarded the "Jardin Remarquable" label.

Amongst the array of churches, visible for miles, the one in Lonzac stands out in the landscape: this beautiful Renaissance building was built in 1530 by Galliot de Genouillac to house the body of his wife Catherine d'Archiac.
In Jarnac-Champagne, where the "chefs' carrot" is grown for its freshness and flavour, but also the "crapaudine" (beetroot), there is a magic square...
In Ste-Lheurine, at the foot of the Arthus windmill, the reading tables provide interpretation keys to learn all about the history, built heritage, customs, lifestyle and landscapes of the Cognac vineyards. In Archiac, the Maison de la Vigne et des Saveurs (House of Vines and Flavours) with its scenography and shop selling local products will complete your discovery of the local terroir.
